The InterContinental Sydney rests within the Treasury Building of 1851, the first purpose-built government office in Sydney. The historic building features the oldest heritage lift in the Southern Hemisphere back from the 1800s and it was home of the first vault in Australia. In 1981 the building was sold to the InterContinental Hotel group, with a major hotel complex built on part of the site and much of the heritage building restored. The hotel opened its doors in 1985. In 2017 the property went through a major refreshing of their spaces.

Here’s some images and how the property describes their Presidential Opera Suite:

Celebrated as one of the most iconic and decadent suites in Australia, unrivalled opulence awaits within the Presidential Opera Suite, formerly known as The Australia Suite.

Floating 29 floors above Sydney’s Harbour, the Presidential Opera Suite boasts panoramic views spanning the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens. Designed to encapsulate the aroma of true luxury and rejuvenation, the suite offers decadent, spacious interiors while the white sails of the Opera House rest below your own private outdoor terrace and balcony.

Here is our video review and commentary on this suite:

Conclusion

Who doesn’t need a grand piano in their suite? It is a great space with stunning views over Sydney harbour and opera house. If you want to stay here, be ready to pay for it (north of AU$3,000++, if you were wondering), as it is very included on the Intercontinental Ambassador Specialty Suite Exceptions (Not Upgrade Eligible) list.
