Virgin Atlantic 65K offer is back

Bank of America’s Virgin Atlantic credit card is now offering a 65,000 mile welcome bonus: That’s 60,000 miles after $2,000 in purchases in the first 3 months plus 5,000 bonus miles when you add two authorized users. Virgin Atlantic miles can be quite valuable to have, as can this card (See: Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard Deep Dive: Maximize Earnings and Status).

Quick Thoughts

While we used to frequently see a bonus that was advertised as “90K miles” on this card, that offer was really for 75K bonus miles (See: An analysis of the Virgin Atlantic 90K offer) and we have not seen that offer return in quite some time. This offer is being advertised as an 80K offer, but once again that number includes anniversary spending bonus points that are an annual feature of the card rather than a new cardmember bonus, so this is really a 65K offer.

On the surface the new offer looks a bit less lucrative, but previous 75K offers have required $12K in spend, whereas the new 65K offer requires just $2K in purchases in the first 90 days). Both offers included 5K for adding two authorized users.

One of the nice things about Virgin Atlantic miles is that they are easy to obtain, which means it is easy to add miles to those earned from this bonus to put together the points you need for an award. Virgin Atlantic is an Amex transfer partner, Chase transfer partner, and Citi transfer partner.

Virgin Atlantic has a number of nice sweet spots, including the fact that Virgin Atlantic sometimes shows really good Delta award availability (and for many fewer miles). Here are a couple of posts on using Virgin Atlantic miles:

Of course, another Virgin Atlantic sweet spot is for ANA First Class between the eastern US and Tokyo for 120K miles round trip or just 110K miles round trip from the west coast. Virgin Atlantic publishes different award charts for each partner, which can be found here.

Overall, it’s great to see an increased offer finally return on this card for those who have been waiting it out for a better bonus.
