Coronavirus travel advice – should I travel to Bali, Malaysia, Taiwan and South Korea and is it safe? – The Sun

CORONAVIRUS has been detected in more than 28 countries, with the death toll now more than 1,200.

With tens of thousands of others thought to be affected, countries around the world are stepping up their travel advice to prevent further outbreak.

The latest country to be affected is Indonesia, with the country now retracing the movements of a Chinese tourist diagnosed with coronavirus upon return from the resort island of Bali.

It is still one of the few Asian countries to have not reported any cases of coronavirus, while Malaysia, Taiwan and South Korea have rising numbers, but authorities are checking hotels and other destinations where the tourist might have gone.

Here is the latest travel advice for regions across Asia.

There are currently no reported cases of coronavirus in Indonesia

The latest advice for British tourists heading to Indonesia has warned that flights have been suspended between the country and China.

The UK government warns: “You should comply with any additional screening measures put in place by the Indonesian authorities.”

Bali immigration have also denied entry to 17 tourists attempting to enter the country who had been to China, as anyone who visited within the past 14 days is banned.

The US government has a Level 2 travel advisory to “Exercise Increased Caution” due to the threat of terrorism and natural disasters – however it it has not been updated in regard to to the coronavirus outbreak.

While nobody in Bali had yet been found with symptoms of the coronavirus, a Chinese tourist has been diagnosed on return from the holiday destination and authorities are searching area that he has visited.
A ministry official, Achmad Yurianto, told reporters the tourist was probably infected on public transport in China upon return.

Is it safe to travel to Malaysia?

Malaysia-based airlines have suspended flights from the country to China, with 19 people reported to have coronavirus.

The UK government warns tourists to stay in touch with their airline as their flights may be “cancelled at short notice”.

Tourists are advised to comply with additional screenings implemented by the Malaysian authorities.

The US government issued an update on February 5, stating they were being “closely monitored”.

However, the travel warning for the country remains at the lowest level.

Is it safe to travel to Taiwan?

Reported cases of coronavirus in Taiwan has reached 18, according to CNN, following three new cases yesterday, including a couple in their 50s and a woman in her 40s.

The UK government has warned of new procedures in Taiwan following the outbreak of the virus.

They warn: “Foreign nationals (including British nationals) who have been in China, including Hong Kong and Macao, during the 14-day period before they arrive in Taiwan will not be permitted to enter.

“British nationals living in Taiwan, holding a valid residence certificate, who have visited China in the 14 day period before arriving in Taiwan may still enter, but will be required to self-isolate at home for a period of 14 days after arrival.”

They add that people who have only been in transit at China are allowed to enter Taiwan.

The US government has no warnings or travel advisories for Taiwan.

Is it safe to travel to South Korea?

South Korea has reported 28 cases of coronavirus.

While they have not cancelled all flights between China and South Korea, many have been affected and tourists who have been in the Hubei province of China in the past two weeks are banned from entering.

However, both the UK and the US have not issued travel advisories for tourists.
