Hilton Honors Program Changes For 2021

Today, Hilton announced temporary Honors program changes for 2021 that help members earn more points, retain or earn status easier, and extend points expiry, among other positive developments.

Hilton has already extended member tiers, including those set to expire in 2020, and all nights consumed in 2020 will automatically roll over into 2021.

Here are the changes:

1. Points Expiry

Points expiry has been waived through December 31, 2021.

2. Status Extensions

All member tiers are extended through March 31, 2022.

3. Lower Status Qualification Requirement

Honors members can earn or renew their stays in 2021 with half the number of stays, nights, or spend.

4. Milestone Bonus

Milestone bonuses start at 20 nights in 2021 instead of 40. Members can earn additional 20,000 points.

5. Status Gifting

Diamond members can gift Gold at 30 and Diamond at 60 nights instead of 60 and 100.

6. American Express

Points earned from American Express will continue counting as base points for status and lifetime qualification through December 31, 2021.

Free Weekend Night certificates issued in 2021 are valid through December 31, 2022, and can be used any days of the week.

Conclusion

I am glad that Hilton Honors decided to make these positive changes for 2021 because travel will be distressed at least until 2022 until we are mostly done with the Covid-19.

Hotels are, however, better positioned to recover sooner than airlines because they can tap on for locals or those within driving distance to stay.

Let’s see how long it will take other hotel loyalty programs to match these changes.
