SAVVY Brits who want the best deals for Christmas getaways should book their flights as soon as possible.
It seems silly to book so soon after Christmas but if you want to make big savings, it’s worth planning far in advance.
That’s because airlines often reduce flight prices if there is low demand – but given Christmas is always a popular period, prices are unlikely to drop in the future.
The Points Guy explains: “Airlines have no difficulty filling their planes at Christmas, as so many people travel.
“The best time to book is as soon as the tickets for your desired flights go on sale, as they are likely to be the lowest prices you will see.”
They add: “It’s very unlikely any airline will reduce fares significantly or have a sale for dates during Christmas 2020, so once flights are available, they will only get more expensive.”
And according to the experts, today is the day for booking British Airways flights for the festive season, as flights are generally at their cheapest 355 days before travel for the airline.
If you’re planning to fly with Singapore Airlines, you should also book today, while for Emirates fans, the best day to book is 340 days ahead.
You can wait until February for bargains with Virgin Atlantic, with the cheapest flights found 11 months ahead.
But if you normally fly with Iberia, you might already be too late – The Points Guy says that its best deals are found 365 days in advance.
Short haul flights are best booked later in the year – for example, easyJet release their Christmas 2020 flights in April, with the cheapest deals as soon as they launch.
Norwegian flights are best between nine to 12 months, depending on the location.
Using a flight comparison website may not work if flights are 12 months away – Google Flights only shows fares up to 11 months ahead of travel.
Thankfully, Skyscanner will show fares a full 12 months ahead.
