British Airways is about to launch a promotion for expanded business class seat availability (BA claims to have at least 100,000 available).
The offer is valid for travel through July 31, 2020, and available for bookings on January 25 (seat may have already been loaded).
You can access this offer on BA’s website here.
Note that the following destinations are EXCLUDED from this offer:
Chatam Islands, Cape Town, Durban, Hong Kong, Incheon (Seoul), Kansai (Osaka), Kuala Lumpur, Muscat, Nassau, Narita, Beijing, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai, Singapore, and Sydney.
Here are some searches I made:
London – New York
London – Johannesburg
London – Los Angeles
Keep in mind that BA claims to have at minimum 100,000 Club World seats available for redemptions through July 31, 2020. This is not an award travel discount, or perhaps they haven’t expanded the availability at all (have had these available all the time).
The business and leisure travel has to be soft due to pandemic concerns over the spread of the coronavirus the past two months outside of China.
BA business class awards are essentially discounted business class fares with Avios and “tax” component of which most is their fuel surcharge (airlines now call them as carrier surcharge). These can make sense for those based in London and who justifiably prefer direct flights (no time wasted).
I tend to use my Avios for short-haul BA Reward Flights Savers in Europe, short/medium-haul partner awards in business, and BA long-haul awards in World Traveler Plus (premium economy) that I then upgrade to business using an upgrade instrument to minimize the Avios component.
Here are the terms and conditions of this promotion:
Book directly with British Airways (BA) from 25th February 2020 for travel between 25 February 2020 and 31 July 2020. This offer can be booked by any British Airways Executive Club member logged into their account and Executive Club account with a sufficient Avios balance.
There is a minimum of 100,000 seats available from 52,000 Avios per return flight. Any Avios price used in offer examples is based on a return Club World fare to selected long-haul destinations from London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports during off-peak periods. Flights subject to the offer during peak periods start at 80,000 Avios.
The full airline taxes, fees and Carrier charges will apply per person, per flight and payment must be made in full at the time of booking. Payment by cheque is not accepted. Bookings made over the telephone will carry a non-refundable £5 offline booking fee per person per ticket. Calls cost up to 5p per minute from a BT landline. Calls from mobiles may vary.
The destinations excluded from the 100,000 seat availability in the offer are: Chatam Islands, Cape Town, Durban, Hong Kong, Incheon, Kansai, Kuala Lumpur, Muscat, Nassau, Narita, Beijing, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney.
Fares are subject to availability and capacity control. Availability may be limited over bank holidays and peak periods. BA does not accept any responsibility if an individual is unable to book a flight at the Avios price quoted. The number of seats available at a particular fare on a particular flight may become fully booked and therefore become no longer available. This is a first-come, first-served promotion.
All flights are subject to the notice and conditions of contract contained on each ticket or itinerary, the Executive Club terms and conditions and British Airways conditions of carriage.
This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, promotion or deal, including but not limited to industry discounted fares (including agency, industry, employee discounts) inclusive holidays, group discount fares, child/infant fares or senior citizen fares, whether or not booked in one of the qualifying classes, bookings made with any other vouchers, travel class upgrades and any BA staff friends and family offers (for example, Hotlines). This promotion applies only to new bookings made from 25th February 2020.
No cash or credit alternative is available.
BA reserves the right to cancel or amend without notice the terms of this offer and any tickets or vouchers issued at offer prices in the event of major catastrophe, war, earthquake or any actual anticipated or alleged breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of BA.
The promoter of this offer is British Airways Plc, Waterside, PO Box 365, Harmondsworth, West Drayton UB7 0GB. Registered No. 1777777. Offer materials form part of these terms and conditions. This offer is governed by English law and is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
