United Airlines today announced new nonstop service between the continental US and Hawaii, Africa, and India.  Here are the details:

Destination United Hub Service Aircraft Season Start

Maui Newark 4X/Week 767-300ER Summer 2021
Africa Accra DC (IAD) 3X/Week 787-8 Spring 2021
Lagos DC (IAD) 3X/Week 787-8 Spring 2021
Johannesburg Newark Daily 787-9 Spring 2021
India Bangalore San Francisco Daily 787-9 Spring 2021
New Delhi Chicago Daily 787-9 Winter 2020

Regarding Hawaii, I’m excited to have new long-distance nonstop routes, especially since most, if not all, other options between the midwest or east coast and Hawaii go to Honolulu.  It’s great to have nonstop options to the Big Island and Maui!

Regarding the other routes, it’s always good to have new nonstop options.  One nice thing about this coming from United is that they don’t impose fuel surcharges.  As a result, flights like these can be booked with minimal fees with partner miles, often for far fewer miles than United would charge.  For example, these routes would be good candidates for using ANA miles to fly around the world in business class for only 115,000 miles.
